CAMP DIRECTOR (21+ -- preference 25+) Responsible to Bay-Lakes Council Director of Camps Duties are as follows: (1) Certified in BSA Camp Management, which includes the program, and operation of the camp. (2) Serves as the Committee Chair or the Adult Crew Leader of Venture Crew (2305), which you are a member. (3) Develops a staff manual and job description for each member of the staff to clearly define their responsibilities. (4) Is also ultimately responsible for the Counselor in Training Program (CIT). (5) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (6) Moves about all areas of the camp regularly and notes progress and needs. Note: The Camp Director may designate a staff member (21+) as an Assistant Camp Director with duties and assignments determined by the Camp Director. PROGRAM DIRECTOR (21+) Responsible to: Camp Director Duties are as follows: (1) Certified in B.S.A. National Camp School Program Director, which includes the program, and operation of camp. (2) Shall work closely with the Camp Director in all matters. (3) Shares with the Camp Director all major plans and problems. (4) Achieves the aim of the camp program by working through the program staff members, commissioners, and troop leaders. (5) Communicate regularly with them through meetings, personal conferences, written communications, and other means. (6) Helps develop a staff manual and job specification with the camp director for each member of the staff to clearly define their responsibilities. (7) Moves about all areas of the camp regularly and notes progress and needs. (8) Work with the Camp Director on mid-term evaluations and final staff evaluations. (9) Creates the weekly schedule for the Camp, Staff, Units, and individual scout programs. (10) May be designated as the Assistant Camp Director. (11) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (12) Responsible for all special events at Camp such as campfires. (13) Serve as the Senior Patrol leader of the Staff. (14) All other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
COMMISSIONER(S) (18+ & MIGHT BE IN CHARGE OF EITHER OUTDOOR SKILLS OR NATURE) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Required to have BSA National Camp School certification in Commissioner. (2) Will be directly responsible to the Program Director. (3) Responsible for camp health and safety. (4) Meet with all assigned units as they arrive in camp, make them feel welcome and aid them in check-in procedures. (5) Help to interpret the patrol method by assisting in the assignment of patrols, tent partners, and in any area of need. (5) Aid the unit in program planning by describing all of the feasible camp activities, and offering occasional recommendations. (6) Is an adult supervisor and is responsible for unit safety and activity during the 24 hour day. (7) Meet periodically during the day with the boy and adult troop leaders to see that the program is running smoothly. (8) Interpret the policies and regulations of the Bay-Lakes Council, Wisconsin Health Standards, and Camp policies where necessary. (9) An all-round "good guy" to the scouts and adults. He/she is a counselor and a teacher. Builds spirit, enthusiasm and good will into his/her troops. (10) Be available to the Scouts to help them in any way possible, but he/she must guard against taking over the unit program. He/she must lead and guides inter troop activities. (11) Ready to be a Program Commissioner over a Program Area. (12) Skilled in Tenderfoot through First Class requirements and outdoor merit badges, because he/she may be called upon to give assistance in these areas. (13) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (14) Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Camp Director. AQUATICS DIRECTOR (21+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Responsible for the entire Aquatic Area and operation which includes the swimming area, boating area, Wolf River, etc. (2) Responsible for the following merit badges and certifications: Swimming, Lifesaving, Rowing, Canoeing, Mile Swim, Scout Lifeguard Training, BSA Snorkeling, etc. (3) Responsible for the Gardner Dam Tube Trips down the Wolf River. (4) Holds a current B.S.A. Aquatic Training Card or ARC Water Safety Instructors Card. (5) Responsible for maintaining the policies set up by the B.S.A. and the Bay-Lakes Council regarding the health and safety of staff, campers, and visitors. (6) Strictly enforce the 8-Point Defense Swim Plan and Safety A'float Plan, and teach these plans to the Scouts and Scouters attending camp. A waterfront orientation will be given to all troops each week. (7) Follows an instructional schedule and is in charge of all instructions. (8) Has charge of swimming classification on Sunday afternoons and the rest of the week when needed. (9) Is responsible for all aquatics advancement, which will be turned in to the Program Director. (10) Sees that the entire waterfront area is ready for operation, i.e.: review of equipment checklist, poles, ropes, buddy boards, first aid kit, boats, and canoes. (11) Responsible for the condition, maintenance, and inventory of all waterfront equipment. (12) Responsible for all Wolf River water activities. (13) Develop and administer a Water Carnival each week with the aid of the Program Director. (14) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult, child, & infant). (15) (4) Train entire paid Aquatic Staff in BSA Scout Lifeguard by the end of Staff Week. (17) All other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
AQUATICS INSTRUCTORS (16+) Responsible to: Aquatics Director Duties are as follows: (1) Assist the Aquatics Director in carrying out his/her responsibilities. (2) Be responsible for the care and maintenance of all equipment. (3) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult, child, & infant). (4) Hold current certification in BSA Scout Lifeguard by the end of Staff Week. (5) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Aquatics Director. WHITEWATER AQUATICS INSTRUCTORS (16+) Responsible to: Aquatics Director Duties are as follows: (1) Follow all Aquatics Instructors duties. (2) May be required to have appropriate American Canoeing Association Certification and appropriate B.S.A. certification for Whitewater Merit Badge. (3) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Aquatics Director. CAMP CLERK (Age 16+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Manage office area, clerical duties, answer phones, support Camp Director, Program Director, and Business Manager. (2) Assisting in medical rechecks on Sunday. (3) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Program Director. CAMPCRAFT DIRECTOR: (18+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Operates the handicraft program. (2) Provides instruction in the handicraft merit badges. (3) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (4) All other duties as assigned by the Program Director. Campcraft Assistants: (15+) Responsible to: Campcraft Director Duties are as follows: (1) Operates the handicraft program as assigned by the Campcraft Director. (2) Provide instruction in the handicraft merit badges and report to the Campcraft. (3) All other duties as assigned by the Campcraft Director. CHAPLAIN (18+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Hold BSA National Camp School certification and/or be a member of the clergy. (2) Will conduct all chapel services and be responsible for all necessary preparations. (3) Coordinate and conduct proper counseling for the scouts in camp. (4) Inform and counsel campers on the religious awards and chaplain's aid program. (5) Help in program areas and first aid cases. (6) Maintain accurate inventory records. (7) Chaplain job in many cases will contain another department head type job. (8) All other duties as assigned by the Program Director. CLIMBING DIRECTOR: (21+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Required to have BSA National Camp School certification in CLIMBING. (2) Is responsible for managing the climbing/rappelling activities. (3) Supervises the routine maintenance of the climbing events and the tower and completes all record keeping in accordance with B.S.A. climbing standards. (4) Trains and supervises the personnel assigned to the department. (5) Certifies his/her staff in accordance to B.S.A. policies. (6) Instructs Climb on Safety Classes. (7) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (8) All other duties as assigned by the Program Director. Climbing Assistants: (18+) Responsible to: Climbing Director Duties are as follows: (1) Work under the direction of the Climbing Director and perform duties assigned in that area. (2) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (3) All other duties as assigned by the Climbing Director. C.O.P.E. DIRECTOR: (21+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Required to have BSA National Camp School certification in C.O.P.E. (2) Is responsible for managing the C.O.P.E. course events and activities. (3) Supervises the routine maintenance of the C.O.P.E. events and completes all record keeping in accordance with B.S.A. C.O.P.E. standards. (4) Trains and supervises the personnel assigned to the department. (5) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (6) All other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director. C.O.P.E. Assistants: (18+) Responsible to: COPE Director Duties are as follows: (1) Work under the direction of the C.O.P.E. Director and perform duties assigned in that area. (2) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (3) All other duties as assigned by the C.O.P.E. Director. ECOLOGY-CONSERVATION DIRECTOR (COULD BE COMBINED WITH COMMISSIONER JOB - 18+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Required to have BSA National Camp School certification in Ecology Conservation. (2) Responsible for the entire nature area and operation. (3) Works out and coordinates a schedule for all nature related merit badges, skill awards, and special activities. (4) Supervise and direct the nature assistants as to their specific responsibilities. (5) Maintain records of all nature advancements, which he/she will turn over to the Program Director. (6) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (7) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Program Director. Note: Ecology-Conservation Director may be assigned by the Camp Director as the overall director of both Ecology-Conservation and Outdoors Skills. Ecology-Conservation Assistants (16+) Responsible to: Eco-Con Director Their duties are as follows: (1) Assist the Ecology-Conservation Director in carrying out his/her responsibilities. This includes instructing and supervising special ecology conservation activities. (2) Be responsible for the care and maintenance of all ecology conservation related equipment. (3) Carry out other duties as assigned to him/her by the Ecology-Conservation Director. WOLF RIVER ADVENTURES DIRECTOR (18+) Responsible to: Camp Director Duties are as follows: (1) Responsible for the entire high adventure program: mountain biking on high adventure trails, rafting, white water canoeing on the rivers, off site treks, and other designated high adventure activities. (2) Help coordinate both a high adventure program and a camp high adventure program with the Program Director. (3) Supervise and direct high adventure assistants as to their specific responsibilities. (4) All B.S.A. safety requirements will be promoted, followed, and taught. (5) Keep records of all advancement and hand them into the Program Director. (6) Maintain accurate inventory records. (7) Run the provisional scout program as set up by the Bay Lakes Council. (8) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Wilderness First Aid and CPR (adult). (9) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Camp Director. High Adventure Staff (18+) Responsible to: Wolf River Adventures Director Duties are as follows: (1) Assist the High Adventure Director in carrying out his/her responsibilities. This includes instructing and supervising special high adventure activities. (2) Be responsible for the care and maintenance of all high adventure related equipment. (3) Reassignment to other Program Areas based on camp numbers. (4) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (5) B.S.A. Scout Lifeguard certification may be required for some or all of these positions. (6) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Wilderness First Aid and CPR (adult). (7) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Wolf River Adventures Director. O.A. COORDINATOR (1) 18+ Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Responsible for all Order of the Arrow ceremonies and obligations at summer camp. (2) Is the Summer Chief. (3) Based on Camp program needs, may be assigned as a program instructor. (4) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (5) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Program Director. OUTDOOR SKILLS DIRECTOR (could be combined with commissioner job) (18+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Must be certified in Outdoors Skill through B.S.A. National Camp School and B.S.A. No Trace Camping certification. (2) Responsible for the entire Outdoor Skills area and operation. (3) Works and coordinates a schedule for all Outdoors Skills related merit badges, Tenderfoot through First Class requirements, and special activities. (4) Supervise and direct the Outdoor Skills assistants as to their specific responsibilities. (5) Maintain records of all Outdoor Skills advancements, which he/she will turn over to the Program Director. (6) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (7) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Program Director. Note: Outdoors Skill Director may be assigned by the Camp Director as the overall director of both Ecology-Conservation and Outdoors Skills. Outdoor Skills/Biking Assistants (16+) Responsible to: Outdoor Skills Director Duties are as follows: (1) Assist the Outdoor Skills Director in carrying out his/her responsibilities. This includes instructing and supervising special Outdoor Skills activities. (2) Be responsible for the care and maintenance of all Outdoor Skills related equipment. (3) Manage and maintain the biking program and equipment. (4) Instruct cycling merit badge as needed. (5) Keep records of all bikes and hand into the Outdoor Skills Director. (6) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Outdoor Skills Director. SHOOTING SPORTS DIRECTOR (21+) Responsible to: Program Director Duties are as follows: (1) Must be certified in Shooting Sports through B.S.A. National Camp School. (2) Should manage and maintain the Shooting Sports areas and equipment. (3) Instruct rifle and shotgun merit badge. (4) Supervise the archery instruction and area. (5) Develop other shooting sports activities as deemed necessary. (6) Keep records of all advancement and hand into the Program Director. (7) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (8) All other duties as assigned by the Program Director. Shooting Sports Assistant (Archery) (18+) Responsible to: Shooting Sports Director Duties are as follows: (1) Assists the Shooting Sports Director in carrying out his/her responsibilities. (2) Be responsible for the care and maintenance of all Shooting Sports equipment. (3) Primary area of responsibility will be on the Archery Range and Action Archery. (4) May be reassigned to help out in rifle and shotgun. (5) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (6) All other duties as assigned by the Shooting Sports Director.
SERVICES DIRECTOR (18+) Responsible to: Camp Director ZAUG SERVICE MANAGER (18+) Responsible to: Services Director Duties are as follows: (1) Shall be responsible to the Camp Director for the effectiveness in operating the camp trading post, Strayer Lodge, the quartermaster facilities, and the commissary. (2) Responsible for the supervision of business staff. (3) Responsible for checking of daily trading post receipts and daily inventory needs. (4) Set up such procedures as will be required to be certain that there will be sufficient food, according to menus, and charcoal. It will be necessary to plan ahead to avoid a costly last minute purchase. (5) Responsible for unloading and storing all foods and supplies that are delivered. (6) Responsible for all camp inventories, trading post, paper goods, equipment, food, etc. (7) Responsible for cost control records. (8) Responsible for dealer relationships. (9) Lock the commissary when clerks are not on duty, and make certain that only those persons directly related to commissary operations have access. (10) Acts as a receptionist by answering the telephone if there is no camp clerk. (12) Keeps all camp records such as attendance, business and financial, and handles receipts. (13) Does filing and receives all moneys coming into the office and issues proper receipts. (14) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (15) Is responsible for implementing Wisconsin ServSafe requirements. (16) All other duties assigned by the Camp Director, which may include Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning duties. Note: When a Zaug Service Manager is hired, the Services Director shall delegate with the approval of the Camp Director a division of the above duties. COMMISSARY MANAGER (17+) Responsible to: Services Director Duties are as follows: (1) Will be directly responsible to the Business Manager and/or Zaug Service Manager. (2) Maintain a perfect state of cleanliness within the Commissary, refrigerators, freezers, and the area outside the Commissary around the loading platform. (3) Responsible for unloading and storing all foods and supplies that are delivered. (4) Responsible for the inventory of all foods and supplies in and out of the Commissary. (5) Take all possible and necessary steps to prevent food spoilage. (6) Organize and discipline self so that the proper food, in the correct quantities, at the right time is available to the designated patrol within designated times for patrol cooking purposes. (7) All other duties as assigned by the Services Director and/or Zaug Service Manager. ASSISTANT COMMISSARY MANAGER (17+) Responsible to: Services Director and/or Zaug Service Manager (1) Assist in maintaining a perfect state of cleanliness within the Commissary, refrigerators, freezers, and the area outside the Commissary around the loading platform. (2) Assist in being responsible for unloading and storing all foods and supplies that are delivered. HEAD COOK (21+) Responsible to: Services Director Duties are as follows: (1) Responsible for ordering food and supplies, preparing meals, keeping the kitchen/dining areas clean, and supervising kitchen help. (2) Works cooperatively with Business Staff. (3) Meets BSA and Wisconsin ServSafe camp standards for kitchen, dining area, and food service area. (4) Directly responsible to Camp Director. (5) All other duties as assigned by the Services Director. Assistant to the Cook (15+) Responsible to: Head Cook Duties are as follows: (1) Assist in ordering food and supplies, preparing meals, and keeping the kitchen/dining areas clean. (2) Works cooperatively within the Business Staff. (3) Follows BSA and Wisconsin ServSafe camp standards for kitchen, dining area, and food service area. (4) Directly responsible to Camp Cook. (5) All other duties as assigned by the Head Cook. SERVSAFE MANAGER (18+): Responsible to Services Director Duties are as follows: (1) Shall implement the Wisconsin ServSafe requirements. (2) State law requires this to be a paid position and it can be held by the Business Manager, Camp Cook, and/or Zaug Service Manager. (3) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (4) All other duties as assigned to him/her by the Services Director or Camp Director. TRADING POST MANAGER (16+) Responsible to: Services Director and/or Zaug Service Manager Duties are as follows: (1) All business transactions are to be carried out on a cash or credit card basis and in a business like fashion. Unauthorized personnel must not go behind the counter or use the Trading Post as a gathering place. (2) Place orders for merchandise needed in maintaining an adequate stock. (3) Keep the area outside the Trading Post clean and free of bottles, cans, and paper. (4) Keep accurate records as prescribed by the Business Manager. (5) Turn over all moneys to the Business Manager and/or Zaug Service Manager at the end of each day. (6) Keep the Trading Post neat and clean at all times. (7) Operate the Trading Post according to the established routine, B.S.A., and Wisconsin ServSafe requirements. (9) All other duties assigned to him by the Services Director and/or Zaug Service Manager.
RANGER (21+) Responsible to: Camp Director Duties are as follows: (1) He/she will perform all maintenance duties as assigned to the physical plant and assist program areas where maintenance is needed. (2) Holds certification in and/or equivalent Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR (adult). (3) Carry out special duties as assigned to him/her by the Camp Director. Ranger Assistant (16+) Responsible to: Ranger Duties are as follows: (1) He/she will perform all maintenance duties as assigned by the Camp Ranger. (2) Carry out special duties as assigned to him/her by the Ranger and Camp Director. HEALTH OFFICER (21+) Responsible to: Camp Director (1) Will be directly responsible to the Camp Director. (2) Responsible for camp health and safety. (3) Meet with all assigned units as they arrive in camp. (4) Complete a one-time power point training for Health Officer. Minimum training requirements: First Responder (preferred training: EMT or LPN or above). (5) Have current CPR certification (adult, child, and infant). (6) Live on site. (7) Responsible for the condition, maintenance, and inventory of all first aid equipment and supplies. (8) Keeping careful and complete records of all patient contacts. (9) Store and dispense personal medications to Scouts and recording those transactions. (10) Be prepared for medical camp emergencies and manage those situations. (11) Be willing to teach scouts First Aid Merit Badge and review scouts in CPR proficiency requirements. (12) Follow standing orders of the camp's doctor, B.S.A. policies for a health officer, and Wisconsin Department of Health standards for a Boy Scout camp. (13) All other duties as assigned by the Camp Director. COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (CIT'S) (14 -15) Responsible to: Area Directors They will have the opportunity to experience camp life as a staff member and thereby be able to make a determination if they want to be a regular staff member for future years. Also, they will have a greater opportunity for future staff positions as their time on staff provides a setting for an ongoing interview and evaluation by the area directors and the camp director. Finally, they are encouraged to earn merit badges both within their departments and outside their department. The Camp Director provides the necessary coordination to accomplish their merit badge goals.
